Alice: Madness Returns is a storyline game where Alice from wonderland now faces the ruins of her own wonderland. In this journey the game takes Alice back into wonderland to find her lost memories.

A few main differences from this game to the classic movie are mostly character-based. The character design for Alice is greatly different, such as giving her black hair as opposed to her usual blonde hair. The designers of the game also put more makeup on Alice as compared to Disney’s movie where Alice seems to have none on. Another difference in Alice is her outfit; In the Disney movie Alice is seen wearing a blue knee-length dress with a white apron on top, white stockings and black mary janes. In the video game Alice is wearing the signature blue dress, a white apron with blood stains and designed pockets. Her apron bow is covered with a small skull as compared to the normal bow from the movie. She wears black and white striped stockings and includes black knee high boots. Other characters have been redesigned as well, such as the Cheshire Cat, as in the movie he was purple and very round and fluffy, as opposed to in this game, as he is a very muted gray color, skinny, and even has tattoos and piercings.
The game itself has a very realistic game design, with hair movement and even realistic body proportions. There is definition within the plants and trees such as individual leaves. There are also effects within the water such as ripples and even reflections. The game also includes lighting effects for some things, such as certain plants glowing with spores as well as when the character finds a lost memory, the memory begins to glow the closer the character is. The color palette in the game is natural, with blues for the sky, white clouds, greens, yellows, and browns for the ground, and even adding in gray for rocks and other features. A neat feature the game also includes is ray tracing, and if the character is in the sunlight shadows are seen, as well as if the character is inside the forest there is not much sunlight for shadows.
